Our second charity of the year was the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and a fantastic £26,500 was raised by our staff and members.
A number of fundraising activities took place and the highlight of the year was the GNAAS Summer Ball, the first charity ball to be hosted by the Newcastle, raising over £7,500!!
GNAAS provides a seven-days-a-week, ten-hours-a-day service, and has a fleet of helicopters covering an area of 7,000 square miles and serving 3.5 million people.
It aims to provide the people of north east England, north Yorkshire and Cumbria with the best quality care available, and its helicopters are vital in the transportation of critically injured or ill patients to the best possible hospitals, which is not always the nearest one to the site of an incident.
The money raised by the Society enabled GNAAS to move into a new purpose-built office which included a comprehensive operations room with new IT equipment and essential back-office facilities.

Our next charity of the year was The Grafter's Club and our donation of £8,427 was the largest single donation ever received by the charity.
Based at the RVI in Newcastle, The Grafter's Club is a Newcastle Healthcare Charity that works with children and their families in the North East and Cumbria who have experienced a burn injury.
The highlight of the fundraising year was the Family Fun Day held at one of Newcastle Building Society's main offices and was attended by over 200 staff and their family and friends.
The money raised by the Newcastle was used to take 22 children for an activity weekend providing the opportunity for the young people to meet others who have had a burn injury. They were able to share their experiences, ways of coping with the daily challenges of living with scars and build self esteem.
