Charity of the Year

The Grafters Club Logo

In 2008 the Society launched a Charity of the Year scheme enabling staff to vote for a charity they would like to support throughout the financial year. For the 2010/11 fundraising year the Newcastle's staff voted to help The Grafters Club as it looks to match the £24,000 raised for the Great North Air Ambulance Service last year. As well as raising funds for The Grafters Club, the Society also supports other events including Children In Need, Red Nose Day, Macmillan Coffee Morning and Operation Christmas Child.

About the Grafters Club

Grafters Club representatives Jo Mason and Alison McKenzie join Newcastle Building Society's Senior Customer Advisor, Victoria Mark to launch the Charity of Year 2010/11.

The Grafters Club, which is based in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Hospital, was set up to offer children who have suffered burns injuries, and their families across the North East and Cumbria the chance to come together to share their experiences and to learn from each other. As well visiting the Club for support, children are given the chance to enjoy trips away to a Jamboree for the weekend, fun days at burns camps and a Christmas party. Other aims of the charity include boosting the confidence of those who have suffered burns injuries, exchange coping strategies and most importantly to have fun.

The Grafters Club is a registered charity with all funds raised through voluntary donations from families and friends of patients, members of the public, grant-making organisations as well as company donations.

If you would like to make a donation to the Grafters Club please visit any Newcastle Building Society branch.
